Our Mission

Coral Reef

The Stanford Earth Systems Wrigley Program in Hawaii provides undergraduate students with the skills to characterize Hawaii's natural environment and analyze the interface between humans and nature. The program will use an interdisciplinary Earth systems approach, the scientific method, and field-based inquiry to understand the Hawaiian Earth system and create potential solutions to pressing Hawaiian environmental issues.

"Although we had occasional lectures, the focus of the program was on the field trips and 'doing it yourself,' putting what we learned into practice. For me the experience of learning out in the field was so much richer than learning in the traditional classroom setting, and because of this, the things I learned in Hawaii I have remembered for longer and with much more clarity."
